Southern Thailand: Road to peace paved by Malaysia

This is yet another feather in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's cap for his role in vigorously pursuing peaceful resolutions to regional conflicts.

Under the historic treaty inked in Kuala Lumpur today, Malaysia will once again be the facilitator towards achieving lasting peace in a region that has been torn apart by armed conflict for decades.

Malaysia's unofficial role as peace broker in the south Thailand conflict which started during Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's leadership has finally been officially recognised and further empowered under Najib's stewardship.

This is certainly another example of what Malaysia, as a nation, stands for. We want peace for all.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 (Bernama) -- In yet another drive for regional peace and stability, Malaysia successfully initiated a general consensus treaty that was signed today between the Thai government and the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN), a southern Thailand Muslim insurgency group.

The treaty, which is to pave the way for a dialogue process for peace in the border provinces of southern Thailand, was signed by both parties at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) in Jalan Semarak, here.

It was Malaysia's second effort in helping to bring about regional stability in Southeast Asia, after having successfully initiated the historic peace agreement for Mindanao in the southern Philippines.

At the signing today, the Thai government was represented by Thailand's National Security Council secretary-general Lt Gen Pharadorn Phatthanatabutr and the rebel side was represented by the chief of the BRN Liaison Office in Malaysia, Hassan Taib.

The signing was witnessed by Malaysia's National Security Council secretary Datuk Mohamed Thajudeen Abdul Wahab.

Others present were Thailand's Defence Ministry deputy permanent secretary Gen Nipat Thonglek, Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre secretary-general Col Tawee Sodsong and Thailand's Special Branch commissioner Lt Gen Saridchai Anakevieng.

BRN was also represented by its Foreign Relations Office secretary Awang Jabat, Ulama Affairs chief Abdullah Sawa and Internal Security Division chief Abdul Rahman Jabat.

Malaysia's Chief of Defence Forces Gen Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar were also present at the ceremony.

A press announcement will be made in Putrajaya during Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's visit to Malaysia later today for the annual consultation with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Speaking to reporters, Mohamed Thajudeen said Malaysia played the role of facilitator in working towards the treaty and that the details would be provided in Putrajaya.

Najib, in his talks with the Thai authorities, had expressed the willingness to help bring an end to the long-running insurgency in the southernmost provinces of Thailand.

He reportedly said that Malaysia was willing to act as a broker in the process.

It has been reported that more than 5,000 people have been killed in Thailand's three southernmost provinces since the insurgency erupted there in 2004.  -- BERNAMA

We practice what we preach. We want peace!

The existence of about 150 villagers from Southern Philippines together with some 30-odd armed escorts is actually more a nuisance but it could however spiral into an 'ugly' situation with the possibility of creating unnecessary tension between Malaysia and the Philippines.

An ugly incident in Lahad Datu would turn Malaysia, Sabah in particular, into a high risk area.

Some desperate politicians on our side and their lackeys in the Philippines may be longing for a bloodbath in Lahad Datu as such an incident would most certainly serve their own political agenda.

Maybe there are desperados on both sides of the border who are working hard to derail the Kuala Lumpur-brokered arrangement towards a Peace Accord between the Philippines Government and the MILF.
(back row) Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Chief Al Haj Murad, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Philippine President Benigno Aquino III and Teresita Quintos-Deles,adviser on the peace process witness the exchange of documents after signing of a framework agreement between the Philippines government and Muslim separatist rebels inside the Malacanang presidential palace, Manila, Philippines, on Oct 15 2012
Anwar and his close buddy Estrada might know why those 'desperados' are keen to shoot the intended peace deal down.

Those villagers, the frail old man who claims to be a crown prince included, and their security guards are not members of any recognised Sultanate.

There is no Sultanate in the REPUBLIC of Philippines, let alone an 'army of the Sultanate'.

The heirs (of the initial heirs of the last Sultan of Sulu), who have being receiving an annual cession token from the Government of Malaysia, are not among those holed up in that remote village in Lahad Datu.

The guy who claims to be the crown prince, from a makeshift hut in Kampung Tanduo is also not recognized as the heir of the late Sultan Jamalul Kiram whose Sultanate was officially abolished by the Government of Philippines in 1939.

The guy who thinks he is the crown prince of the non-existent Sultanate might carry the the name Kiram but the Regional Trial Court of Sulu – 9th Judicial Region of Jolo (in a judgement dated 25th of May 2011) doesn’t recognize him or the ‘Sultan’ as heirs to any Sultanate.

To reiterate – there is no such region or island or group of islands that is termed as the Sulu Sultanate under the Philippines’ constitution.

Philippines is a republic and normally republics don’t have/recognise Sultanates.

Some interesting points to ponder below:

… International Court of Justice in 2003 nevertheless observes that, undisputedly, the Sultan of Sulu relinquished the sovereign rights over all his possessions in favour of Spain, based on Bases of Peace and Capitulation signed by Sultan of Sulu and Spain in Jolo on the 22 July 1878.[31] [32]

Recent pretenders

Although the Sultanate is no longer officially recognized by any state as a sovereign entity, many individuals continue to claim the title of Sultan of Sulu and/or Sultan of North Borneo, often with documentation that would seem to support their claims.[45]

Muedzul Lail Tan Kiram, another claimant, has insisted on the legitimacy of his succession as the 35th Sultan of Sulu. He cites Memorandum Order 427 of 1974, in which former Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos’ recognized his father, Sultan Mahakuttah A. Kiram, as Sulu ruler.

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sultans_of_Sulu

Claims over Sabah

Nevertheless, Malaysia considered this dispute as a "non-issue", as there is no desire from the actual people of Sabah to be part of the Philippines or of the Sultanate of Sulu.[41][42] As reported by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the independence of North Borneo was brought about as the result of the expressed wish of the majority of the people of the territory in a 1963 election.

Today, there are at least a dozen pretenders to the throne, some of whom are fakes.  Most of the contenders claim descent from Jamal ul Azam, who leased Sabah to Baron von Overbeck.

In 1939, a civil suit was filed by propriety claimants (Dayang Dayang Hadji Piandao and eight other heirs) of the "cession money" payable to the heir of Sultan of Sulu, following the death of Sultan of Sulu, Jamalul Kiram II in June 1936, childless. Chief Justice C. F. C. Macaskie of the High Court of North Borneo made a ruling on the shares entitled by each claimants.[24]

A classic 'twist' of the 1939 High Court ruling...

MAKASKIE DECISION
In 1939, the heirs of Jamal ul Kiram II asked the High Court of North Borneo who were the heirs of the Sulu Sultan Jamal ul Kiram II, who died without issue. They wanted to know who theowners of Sabah were. Was it Great Britain or the Sulu Sultan’s heirs.  Chief Justice CFC Makaskie of the High Court of North Borneo ruled in favor of the petitioners led by the two celebrated Sulu princesses, Dayang dayang Hadja Piandao and Dayang Dayang Putli Tarhata.
Philippines believe in the rule of Force. Marcos tried the Jabidah route. Then he tried an all-out war against the Moros. President Joseph Estrada tried an all-out war against the MILF.  But Malaysia believes in the rule of law. It is much easier to negotiate with Malaysians.

The last line is indeed flattering but I don't think the Malaysian Government would fall for such sweet talk. The Malaysian Government should not negotiate its sovereignty with a bunch of intruders who don't know who they are.

All those who think they are the rightful owner of Sabah or Sulu, or both should consider a round table conference to determine who among them owns what. After that they should decide on the tittle they want to carry before making a representation to their government.

After all the Philippines' just passed a law to compensate human rights victims of former president Ferdinand Marcos. They say Marcos was a dictator.

Those intruders in Lahad Datu should be thankful that Malaysia is a strong advocate of peace and staunch believer in peaceful resolution of conflicts.

Our utmost patience and diplomacy in handling the Lahad Datu intrusion is testimony that Kuala Lumpur practices what we preach.
We could have wiped out the entire 180-odd intruders in a matter of minutes but what happens after we shoot and kill them on our soil?

Level headed Malaysians are praying for a peaceful resolution to the 'situation' in Lahad Datu while thousands of security personnel are on full alert to face any eventuality in protecting Malaysian sovereignty.

Malaysian officers and officials are working round the clock to prevent any bloodshed in Lahad Datu and any further bloodshed in our region.

We, Malaysians, are now putting the final touches to yet another peace deal. We want peace!

p/s All the 180 Sulu villagers/intruders, plus the boatmen who ferried them, would have ended up being transported back in body bags had they landed on Tekong Island.

Pas enters BARISAN NASIONAL via SARAWAK ?

This must be a dream come true for Pas vice-president Husam Musa. A rare face-to-face meeting with Barisan Nasional strongman Pehin Sri Taib Mahmud in his office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Petrajaya Kuching.

It's certainly very brave of Husam to enter the lion's den but from the way Husam is seated, you could work out his actual 'size' as a politician.

If all those wild accusations and allegations hurled by DAP, PKR and Pas against the pioneer of party politics in Sarawak were to be stacked up, and Taib was indeed a tyrant as the DAP and PKR goons often portrayed him, Husam must have been history by now.

But the meeting was not about politics. I was told Pehin Sri Taib agreed to allocate a few minutes of his time to listen to Husam's logic to demand an increase of oil royalty from the Federal Government for oil producing states in Malaysia. (we leave aside the legality and all that EEZ facts)

Husam leads the R for Royalti , a Kelantan-based movement that makes noise promising billions of ringgit for Kelantanese ... not very different from Hindraf's old promise of approximately 1million pound for every Malaysian of Indian origin.

p/s I won't be surprised if Sarawak PAS decided to dump their untrustworthy sleeping partners and apply to join Barisan Nasional in the near future.

BLACK HAND in Johor

BREAKING NEWS!!!!

DAP and PKR are on the verge of taking control of Johor.

I think these two political parties whose leaders travel without the aid of a compass, GPS or any navigation system, are really capable of doing great service to Johor and Johoreans.

The may be fighting in the open like two badly brought up kids but trust me these two political parties who claim to be sleeping together with PAS are truly competent enough to take Johor and Johoreans to heaven.

They’re still undecided who wants to be in the driver’s seat but YOU don’t burn your midnight oil trying to understand them. They maybe IMMATURE but they certainly possess the skills of a master magician.

The one who thinks he’s God’s gift to Johor and Johorean are also said to be a holy man. The one with the BLACK HAND.

For a clearer picture, please read what the respective mouthpieces of DAP and PKR have to say about the future Menteri Besar of Johor and potential cabinet members of Pakatan Rakyat.

The future MB of Johor has crossed swords with DAP chairman Karpal's man in Johor.

Dr Mahathir urges Asian leaders to stop "kowtowing" to the West

Once a soldier, always a soldier
A lesson from history - Oct 11, 2004

SINGAPORE, Oct 11 (AFP) - Former Malaysian
prime minister Mahathir Mohamed urged Asia’s leaders
on Monday to stop “kowtowing” to Westerners, warning
continued subservience would lead to domestic
uprisings and terrorist attacks.

Mahathir, whose anti-Western rhetoric often caused
controversy during his 22 years in power, told a
university lecture in Singapore on democracy and
Asian leadership that Asian minds were still
“colonised” by Western influence.

“Asian leaders and Asians in general have yet to
achieve freedom of thought, freedom to look
critically at the ideas and idealogies coming from
outside Asia,” Mahathir, 79, said.

“They are still beholden to the ethnic Europeans.
They are still Euro-centric. Many are apologetic
because they believe they have fallen far short of
the standards that the ethnic Europeans expect of
them.”

Mahathir said Asians were “waiting for a
leader, a credible leader from a credible nation”.

“Those who kowtow too much to the ethnic Europeans
should not be surprised if their people will rise
against them, will commit acts of terror, or
whatever,” he said.

“Asian leaders have a choice. Assume and assert
true leadership, seize the initiative in terms of
ideas and thoughts, and restore self-respect. Or face
the humiliation of foreign hegemony and the contempt
of their own people.”

Mahathir peppered his speechand ensuing question-and-answer sesssion with
pro-Asian, anti-Western references, such as: “Asians
were civilized long before Europeans were civilized.

They should learn from us.” “When the ethnic
Europeans were still clothed in animal skin, Asians
were already ruling vast areas under complex
government systems,” he said.

While conceding that democracy was the best
governance model in theory, Mahathir devoted much of
his 30-minute speech to the pitfalls of Western
democratic systems.

“There is evidence that many Asians have not
understood what democracy is all about and what can
result from the democratic process,” he said, warning
“liars” and the “cunning few” often rise to the top.

While saying that democracies unique to Asia should
evolve gradually, he also lauded the efforts of a
host of regional dictators to develop their nations.

“Undemocratic Asian leaders in the distant and
recent past have actually been instrumental in
dragging their countries and their people kicking and
screaming into the modern world,” he said.

Mahathir cited China’s Deng Xiaoping and South
Korea’s Park Chung-Hee as undemocratic leaders who
had advanced their nation, and quipped whether
Thailand’s late-19th, early-20th century monarch
Chulalongkorn would have achieved his reforms with a
one-seat parliamentary majority.

Mahathir was in power in Malaysia from 1981 to
October last year, and the United Malays National
Organisation coalition he led has ruled the nation
since independence from the British in 1957.

His tenure was often criticised by human rights
groups and opposition politicians for undemocratic
techniques such as muzzling the press and the jailing
of political opponents, but he oversaw strong economic
development.

Xenophone KICKED OUT!

Controversial Australian senator Nicholas Xenophone is persona non grata in Malaysia. THANK YOU!

Nicky Xenophony as he is popularly known among proponents of LGBT culture here and in Australia is being kicked out from the cheap airlines terminal in Sepang for breaching his travelling conditions as a visitor to this sovereign nation.

Basically the sovereign Government of Malaysia has put a stop to seedy characters from another country to have unbridled rights to enjoy our hospitality, weather and environment while demonising the 'voice of the majority'.

If I'm not mistaken this seedy character took part in an unlawful street demonstration during 'his/her' visit here in May 2012. That is good enough a reason for the Malaysian Immigration Department to kick Nicky out at the entry point.

Well done Home Minister. Enough of our Malaysian hospitality for such undesirable characters. Even the Australian senate doesn't give two hoots to Nicky boy...or girl.

Australian Senate says NO to Ambiga and Nick X

P/s Guess the 100 odd guys from the Sulu Sultanate who is in Lahad Datu (Sabah) enjoying Malaysian hospitality there will also be deported today. That is the ultimatum. We got to kick em' OUT before they become a pain.

WATCH THIS KUALA LUMPUR

From the video above it appears that the transformation of Bogota took more common sense, logic plus a clear heart and mind of a single individual... more than dollars and cents.

We may be a little late in Kuala Lumpur and other similar urban centers in Malaysia but its never too late to take a leaf from this Colombian experience to make our urban centers human friendly.

Listen to the narration, you'll be able to relate a few points to our experience in Malaysia. Quality of life, crime, stressful urban experiences, priorities of the government (i.e DBKL), greed of bizmen (from shopkeepers who want customers to be able to park on pavements in front of their shops to constructors of super highways) and many more.

All sorts of crime and total disregard to rules and regulations plus the ugly 'ah long' and 'sex toy' stickers on road signs and traffic light poles could be telling us that we are heading towards the dungeon, like how Bogota was before the transformation.

DBKL, please take note of the early warning signals.

p/s TQ @YouTiup for sharing this great video on Twitter.

Kick Pakatan Rakyat OUT! - Jeffrey Kittingan

Jefferey Kittingan advised the people of Sabah to reject PR in the coming general election as they did not have the people’s interests at heart?

Below is a news report in the Borneo Post today.

KUCHING: Sarawakians should stick with the present state government as it is led by local-based parties which have the interest of the people at heart, says State Reform Party (STAR) Sabah chief Datuk Dr Jeffery Kitingan.

He stressed that the people in Sarawak should be grateful that they were still being ruled by the local-based political parties unlike Sabah which is controlled by a peninsula-based party.

“My advice for Sarawakians is this; why should you support the opposition especially the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) which is all made up of peninsula-based parties? The people of Sarawak must learn
from our (Sabahans) bitter experiences where most of our interests have been eroded away under the current government,” Jeffery told The Borneo Post here yesterday.

He said that was why STAR advised the people of Sabah to reject PR in the coming general election as they did not have the people’s interests at heart.

Jeffery pointed out that the PR ‘Buku Jingga’ (Orange Book) did not specifically mention and explain how the people of Sarawak and Sabah would and could benefit if they were to capture Putrajaya after the general election.

“Be they Pakatan Rakyat or any other Peninsula-based BN parties, they are all the same. I can say this from my own experiences dealing with them,” added Jeffery who was detained under ISA for two years in Kamunting in the 90’s.

He called on the people of both states to understand and accept STAR’s ‘Borneo Agenda’ whichwas to ensure that the Malaysia Agreement in 1963 would be uphold and not diluted.

“We hope that the people of both states take this coming general election seriously and vote wisely so that we can become the real kingmakers, thus can bargain for better deals with federal leaders,” he said.

Jeffery also hoped that with better bargaining power after the 13th general election, both Sarawak and Sabah would be able to fight for at least one third of 222 parliamentary seats as agreed in during the formation of Malaysia.

Currently Peninsular Malaysia has more than 75 per cent of the seats leaving Sarawak and Sabah to have only 56 seats with Sarawak having 31 and Sabah 25 seats. - MORE

No wonder Anwar Ibrahim held a hush-hush emergency meeting with newborn Sarawak Workers Party supremo Datuk Sng Chee Hua at the KL Hilton yesterday (Tuesday).

The THREE HOUR meeting at the 'sentral' I was told, went on with Anwar enticing the Kapit-born political animal with a whole load of returns, including at least two ministerial positions in his cabinet if PR forms the federal government.

The meeting of the two desperate politicians wouldn't have raised an eyebrow under normal circumstances as Sng would often be on Anwar's side whenever the latter was in Sarawak but yesterday's meeting was different.

A three hour four-eyed meeting between two political animals in a closely guarded hotel room in KL, with calls to kick PR out of Sabah by their own ally... with a looming general election that will seal PR's fate, the Tuesday meeting was different.

Pakatan or rather Anwar seems to be stuck in his own game as Jeffrey Kittingan sticks to his Sabah for Sabahan cry.

If Jeffrey Kitingan relents to pressure (from the Kapit towkay or Anwar) and puts his Sabah for Sabahan in the back burner ... the veteran politician's credibility would most certainly burn along the war cry he coined as an Opposition politician.

Lets watch the worms wriggle as the GE heat goes up.

p/s Sng Chee Hua maybe too 'tired' to contest the Kapit parliamentary seat but his son Larry Sng would be a real threat to whoever BN's Parti Rakyat Sarawak fields in one of the most remote constituencies in our country.
Larry was a bright star in the BN until petty politics in PRS pushed him out.

Attempted 'murder' of PDRM

There are many familiar faces in this video. One of them is Suaram' Executive Director Nalini Ellumalai who blatantly blames the Royal Malaysian Police for murder.

Nalini shouts her heart out in this video - "Ini adalah satu pembunuhan, betul? Pembunuhan ini berterusan dan tidak berhenti, betul? Kalau dia (C.Sugumaran) seorang yang mempunyai heart attack kenapa you gari dia? It's obvious ini adalah satu pembunuhan"

A group of very familiar Pakatan Rakyat politicians like N.Surendran , Lateefa Koya, Manikavasagam and their lackeys staged this political drama outside the Federal Police Headquarters in Bukit Aman purportedly to protest the death of security guard C.Sugumaran who collapsed and died after police handcuffed him on a roadside in Kajang recently.

C.Sugumaran did not die in police custody (as in lock-up) but collapsed and never regained consciousness after being handcuffed at the scene. The deceased (with a history of mental illness) had earlier ran amok and destroyed public property. (according to initial police statement and eye witness account)

Selangor Police have proposed for an inquest to investigate the death of C.Sugumaran following attempts by Pakatan Rakyat politicians to manipulate Sugumaran's death for political mileage but these same Pakatan Rakyat politicians have denounced the proposed inquest without any justification.

Well if its true that C.Sugumaran was beaten to death by the two policemen who apprehended him with the help of members of the public, the duo must face the full brunt of the law. But what if all those wild allegations hurled by these Pakatan Rakyat politicians and their lackeys like Nalini are mere fabrication?

How could you, Nalini, say that this is a murder (pembunuhan)? Were you there at the scene witnessing this pembunuhan?

Another Pakatan Rakyat politician who hurls blatant allegations against PDRM in the video above is M.Ravi - the PKR state assemblyman for Port Dickson.

Ravi, speaking before a banner with Sugumaran's dead body with PKR flag superimposed on it, says "Polis ini licenced killer!

Well, maybe its time for the police to act. Investigations into Sugumaran's death must not leave any stones unturned.

But PDRM and the Home Ministry must also initiate immediate action against politicians and their lackeys who make blatant accusations of 'murder' and 'lisenced killer' without any basis.

Forget about politics and political considerations, that is none of your business in this matter. This is about upholding a 'Royal' institution that has become a favourite target of politicians.

I believe the two policemen who rushed to the scene to detain a unstable man who was running amok on the streets of Kajang on that day have their rights too. PDRM too should stand up for their rights or risk being ridiculed by desperate politicians and their lackeys.

p/s Nalini, your 'spin' that police was wrong to handcuff a man who suffers from heart problems sucks. Your insinuation that the policemen knew Sugumaran had heart problems or heart attack, thus shouldn't have handcuffed him speaks volumes of your level of intelligence and/or desperation.
