PRETENDERS ?

Hypocrisy appears like the name of the game, and it’s being played all too well.

I was stunned when a senior director of a multinational giant related his encounter with Penang Chief Minister Saudara Lim Guan Eng.

Director X happened to be in Kuching for a top-level business meet and seems to have had the opportunity to witness the public appearances of Opposition politicians.

Guan Eng, I was told, was also in Kuching to attend the on-going Rulers Conference at the majestic new landmark of the Sarawak State Assembly.

The oldest assembly of elected representatives in Malaysia, another of architect Hijjaz Kasturi’s marvel, sits on a small hill overlooking the Sarawak River that cuts across Kuching.

The globe-trotting corporate player was indeed awed when he watched the Chief Minister being picked up from his hotel in an ordinary Proton (not the high-end Perdana, Satria Neo and the likes).

Other Menteri Besar and Chief Ministers, I was told, were driven around in imported luxury cars.

He vouched that it was an ‘old Proton’ that Guan Eng hopped into and was driven by DAP Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jin.

DAP seems to be walking their talk?

But Guan Eng’s father Lim Kit Siang and the rest of the gang including the current Chief Minister of Penang were against the National car project and even the Penang Bridge which they ply daily now.

Look for the labels they pasted on these national projects then, and compare with the unfolding drama more than two decades later.

On the Sarawak front, Chong is also an ardent critic of the new RM300 million Dewan Undangan Negeri.

Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, Sarawak, North Borneo (Sabah) and Singapura got together and formed the Federation of Malaysia in 1963, the DUN was also known as Council Negeri of Sarawak.

For a start now, please verify if MP Chong Chieng Jin actually drives an ‘old Proton’ in Kuching.

Tell me if I’m wrong, but I think he doesn’t.

p/s Another little bird told me that PKR Padungan state assemblyman Dominique Ng also drove an ‘old Proton’ to the opening of the new DUN building by DYMM Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, a day before the Rulers Conference.
The bird said he was in dark suit and brown shoes, and had exchanged his imported Toyota 6-seater for the ‘old Proton’, for that particular appearance.
This is indeed very interesting. Please tell me more.

I WONDER WHY

I wonder WHY the subject of Mathematics and Science could be taught in Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese language (i.e.Mandarin) and Tamil, BUT not in English.

Isn't English a common language in our beloved multiracial country? We ought to remember that English also happens to be the number 1 lingua franca in the world, a truly international language.

WHY Mathematics and Science cannot be also taught in English in Malaysia? Why its okay with Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Tamil but not English?

The mother-tongue of an Iban boy in Ulu Kapit is not Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese or Tamil, so are we depriving him of his rights to learn Science and Mathematics in Bahasa Iban?

I still wonder ...

Utusan's poll appeared after an overwhelming majority from the over 60,000 respondents to www.chedet.cc were against the Government's recent decision to STOP the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English.

WHO ARE THE RACISTS?

Singapore went to town last week with the announcement of the appointment, for the first time, of a Malay to head the Republic's Armed Forces.

Colonel Ishak Ismail, a career officer in the SAF, is the first Malay to achieve the rank of Brigadier General.

His promotion was described as marking a milestaone in Malays' efforts to be fully accepted in the military, a contoversial issue ever since it was disclosed in 1987 that the SAF adopted cautious approach in placing them in key positions.

Finally, the island-republic decided to emulate what Malaysia hd been doing even during the days of Malaya - that is to appoint members from the ethnic minority to key positions in the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF). This was and is being done despite the fact that the rank and file are filled by majority Malays.

The Government, has been trying with little success to encourage the participation of more non-Malays, especially the Chinese to join the armed services as a career platform.

The appointment of Ishak as a Brigadier-General or Rear-Admiral (One Star) smacks of 'tokenism", but the move has been heralded by many Singapore admirers as proof of the republic's 'colour-blind' policies as well as that of meritocracy.

Actually the song and dance that Singapore makes of the appointment of a Malay is clearly racist. It is a confession that it had discriminated against the Malays in the past. Recently, even Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong (who himself was commander of the SAF) had declared publicly that Singapore was not ready for a non-Chinese Prime Minister.

Now it is window dressing time.

Racists in Malaysia can already be heard shouting in the blogsphere that such an appointment would never be seen in Malaysia.

Well is it? Have they heard of Brig-Gen Baljit Singh, Brig-Gen Huang Chew Siong, Brig-Gen T.Parameswaran, Mej-Gen Gophal Ramdass, First Admiral T.Thiruchandran, Commodore T.Thanabalasingham (Malaysia's first chief of Navy) and Brig-Gen Toh Boon Fook. Then there is Mej-Gen N.Selvarah.

Major-Gen William Stevenson is currently the Army's Inspector-General.

Of course the Defence Ministry may not have tabulated the whole list of top ranking military personnel based on racial background since their participation in the MAF had never been considered a novelty or token.

Unlike in Singapore when such an appointment is made it needed to be announced to the whole world less it was not noticed.

One wonders what is the responsibility of Brig-Gen Ishak Ismail?

But, for the benefit of those with racist tendencies, this following list was tabulated from available public records between 1966 - now;

TRAITORS IN PAS

I THINK by now many Malaysians would have come to their senses about the unholy alliance in Pakatan Rakyat.

As days past by, the fiction that Pakatan Rakyat is a viable alternative to Barisan Nasional is slowing unveiling itself, with a helping hand from DAP's Lim Dynasty and ‘King’ Karpal.

Pas president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang is not only facing unwarranted attacks from Lim&Lim, Karpal and others wannabe politicians but also from within his own party.

The recent PAS muktamar had in fact strengthened the president’s influence in the party but that has given birth to an unprecedented move to topple the president at all costs.

High ranking Pas sources confirmed the existence of a movement within the party, with the blessing of party elder Datuk Nik Aziz, to end Hadi’s reign as president.

The stated reason is because Hadi Awang is an Umno stooge and that he would betray Pas, but sources say that reason is actually far from the truth.

It was understood that the spiritual advisor is breaking ties with his president solely because all ‘his boys’ from Kelantan were not voted into as decision makers in the party.

While it was the Erdogans who were conspiring to kill Ustaz Nasharuddin politically, they somehow took their own bullets and were kicked out by party delegates for being rude against the Ulama (scholars).

But now the blame is placed squarely on Hadi and Nasharuddin.

The president and deputy president of Pas are now Umno stooges, in the eyes of Nik Aziz and his boys.

And, in the eyes of his Pakatan partners, Hadi is said to be fast becoming ‘a humiliation to Pakatan Rakyat’.

Is Hadi/Nasharuddin an embarrassment to Pakatan Rakyat or is Pakatan Rakyat a bigger embarrassment and shame to Malaysia?

So much for Malay unity. While it's okay for Nik Aziz' Pas to sleep with DAP a simple muzakarah with Umno, as suggested by Hadi and Nasharuddin, is forbidden.

Who is the traitor here?

I wonder where the Prime Minister wannabe, not Husam but his boss Anwar Ibrahim, is?

TRUTH HURTS

'We believe that the 1Malaysia slogan is not capable of creating a more conducive condition because Umno and BN have their internal problems and this has made them dis-united." – PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang in his opening speech at the three-day 55th Pas Muktamar.


Abdul Hadi was just stating the obvious, particularly the part about ‘missing’ unity in Barisan Nasional. As the lynchpin, Umno’s unity is paramount to effectively lead the coalition.

Born through sincere friendship and solidarity more than a decade after independence, the BN partnership is undoubtedly experiencing its biggest test for continued survival but, do members of this once unassailable coalition realize this?

It’s not a critical situation, but when you’re in the grave it would be too late for anything and everything.

Hope the true partners in Barisan Nasional, will stand up and face the test with the same courage and hard work that prevailed during the early stages of this nation.

Umno shouldn’t be forced to bear the burden of holding the diverse coalition together while other partners are busy with their very own narrow survival stunts.

Just note the squabbles and conflicting vibes from MCA, MIC, Gerakan and the latest being our PPP.

Do we need this? Are the partners in BN truly aware of the prevailing situation on the ground?

The FACT remains that BN is the social/political force that has brought us thus far in our illustrious journey before/after Independence in 1957 and the subsequent formation of the Federation of Malaysia in 1963.

Fact aside the TRUTH is that if the partners in BN fail to buck-up the coalition’s history might just end.

I THINK Abdul Hadi is actually doing a favour, thank him.

An interesting email from a friend ...


The Money Cycle.

It is August. In a small town on the South Coast of France, the holiday season is in full swing, but it is raining so there is not too much business happening. Everyone is heavily in debt.

Luckily, a rich Russian tourist arrives in the foyer of the small local hotel. He asks for a room and puts a Euro100 note on the reception counter,takes a key and goes to inspect the room located up the stairs on the third floor.

The hotel owner takes the banknote in hurry and rushes to his meat supplier to whom he owes E100. The butcher takes the money and races to his supplier to pay his debt.

The wholesaler rushes to the farmer to pay E100 for pigs he purchased sometime ago.
The farmer triumphantly gives the E100 note to a local prostitute who gave him her services on credit.

The prostitute goes quickly to the hotel, as she owed the hotel for her hourly room use to entertain clients.

At that moment, the rich Russian is coming down to reception and informs thehotel owner that the proposed room is unsatisfactory and takes his E100 backand departs.

There was no profit or income. There was NO real economic activity. But everyone no longer has any debt and the small town people look optimistically towards their future.

COULD THIS BE THE SOLUTION TO THE Global Financial Crisis?
