IT IS YOUR VOTE

 

While walking down the street one day a Malaysian politician is tragically hit by a truck and dies.

His soul arrives in heaven and is met by an angel at the entrance.

 "Welcome to heaven," says the angel. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the man.

"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven.   Then you can choose where to spend eternity."

"Really, I have made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the Yang Berhormat

"I'm sorry, but we have our rules," says the angel.

And with that, the angel escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and dressed in the finest batik there is. 

They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.  They play a friendly game of golf and then indulge themselves on lobsters, caviar and the most expensive food there is.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises.

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where the angel is waiting for him.

"Now it's time to visit heaven."

So, 24 hours pass with the Yang Berhormat joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and the angel returns.

"Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."

The Yang Berhormat reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I am better off in hell." 

So the angel escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage.

He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above. 

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder.

"I don't understand," stammers the Yang Berhormat. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?" 

The devil looks at him, smiles and says, "Yesterday we were campaigning just like you during an election...... Today YOU voted."

How to fix Malaysia ?

Our deteriorating state as a nation is no longer a secret. The speed at which we are sliding towards becoming a failed nation has surprised the world but it is no longer a secret. Most importantly those watching us could sense the root cause of our decay. 

The ugly side of 'Leadership by example' is eating away all that we have built for the past six or seven decades. The hardwork of all Malaysians irrespective of race, religion or region is going down the drain. 

We are losing confidence, trust and respect at an alarming rate. Our currency is fast becoming a laughing stock. The much touted market forces are moving against us.  

Who knows what hit us? 

The Edge has carried out a telling online survey on Malaysia's rot. The findings are analysed in a Special Bumper issue available on newsstands now. 

There is also an interesting article by Tun Daim Zainuddin in The Edge' bumper issue (excerpts above) which basically tells us what to do to #SaveMalaysia. 

In Tun Daim's jottings the part on the role of civil servants should be an eye opener, especially to those higher ups who seem detached from the reality on the ground. 

The few from the top echelon of the civil service must certainly face the music when those dirty politician are no longer in positions to abuse power.

Antara chauvinis, komunis dan pengkhianat

Sudah wujud kerjasama politik yang matang serta boleh diterima pakai masyarakat majmuk Malaysia sejak awal tahun 1950-an lagi. 

Kerjasama di-antara wakil kaum utama dinegara ketika itu adalah langkah persatuan awal politik kaum-kaum berlainan, terutamanya orang Melayu dan orang keturunan Cina. 

Umno yang mewakili orang Melayu pada ketika itu berkerjasama dengan MCA yang mewakili orang Cina kerana masing-masing menguasai sokongan orang Melayu dan orang Cina dalam keadaan hampir 'mutlak'.

MCA ketika itu berdiri sebagai ketua kepada sebuah gabungan besar badan-badan bukan kerajaan (NGO) serta persatuan-persatuan kaum, suku serta perniagaan yang mewakili kaum Cina diseluruh negara.

Umno berkerjasama dengan  MCA sebelum dan selepas Merdeka pada tahun 1957 kerana Malaysian Chinese ASSOCIATION pada ketika itu adalah wakil kaum Cina di Malaya dan kemudiannya Malaysia. 

Sehingga tahun 2014 sokongan untuk MCA kekal kukuh walaupun goyah ketika DAP melonjak seketika bersama segolongan besar masyarakat Cina. 

Status MCA pada hari ini jauh berbeza. Mungkin tidak sampai 20% masyarakat Cina yang masih bersama dengan parti politik itu. (Saya sedia diperbetulkan dalam jangkaan ini)

Sokongan masyarakat Cina telah beralih kepada Democratic Action Party (DAP). Mungkin ada pelbagai alasan serta andaian tetapi yang nyata masyarakat Cina melantik DAP sebagai wakil politik mereka. 

Baru-baru ini seorang menteri kanan kerajaan Barisan Nasional dari Umno menemplak dan memperkecilkan MCA kerana telah hilang sokongan masyarakat Cina. 

Menteri itu berkata beliau akrab dengan pemimpin DAP kerana sokongan orang Cina untuk DAP adalah jauh lebih besar dari sokongan mereka untuk MCA.  

Itu pertengkaran terbuka di-antara dua parti BN yang yakin bahawa rakyat masih menyokong mereka. Keadaan sebenar umpama 'jauh panggang dari api'.

Keputusan pilihanraya-piliharaya yang diadakan SPR sejak 2008 adalah rujukan muktamad angka dan peratusan. 

Jadi, kenapa kerjasama antara kaum yang dijalin dari zaman negara belum merdeka lagi harus diketepi demi kepentingan sempit sebilangan yang tamak kuasa? Mana mungkin kepentingan yang khianat dan tamak mengatasi kepentingan rakyat dan negara? 

DAP adalah parti politik yang mewakili majoriti rakyat Malaysia kaum Cina pada ketika ini. Kaum lain yang ingin berkerjasama dengan kaum Cina demi kelangsungan politik perpaduan tidak boleh menafikan status DAP dalam politik Malaysia pada waktu ini.  

Kerisauan 'orang Melayu grassroots' tidak boleh menerima kerjasama politik dengan DAP adalah pendapat sebilangan kecil yang ingin terus mempengaruhi minda orang Melayu terutamanya mereka yang alpa akan situasi sediada dalam negara. 

Pemimpin seharusnya menerangkan realiti politik kita ketika ini dan mengajak masyarakat, terutamanya orang Melayu, keluar dari kepompong lama. Rakyat dahagakan satu kerjasama baru antara masyarakat majmuk kita. Rakyat mencari pemimpin.

Pemimpin tidak wajar mengambil pendekatan populis ketika negara memerlukan kepimpinan untuk menyelamatkan kita dari perigi buta. 

Agak mustahil orang Melayu tidak boleh berkerjasama dengan wakil sah orang Cina pada waktu ini jika 60 tahun lepas mereka sanggup berkerjasama dengan wakil sah orang Cina ketika itu. Apa bezanya niat dan matlamat, dulu dan kini?  

Sekian lama penyokong kerajaan Barisan Nasional, termasuk saya sendiri, tidak bersetuju dengan DAP kerana pemimpin parti itu bersikap chauvinis. Ini tidak dapat dinafikan tetapi sikap chauvinis dan perkauman melampau ini bukan lagi hak mutlak segelintir pemimpin DAP. 

Sekarang ini kenyataan-kenyataan yang jauh melampaui batas dan menyakitkan hati masyarakat kerap dilontar golongan lain yang dahulu menuding DAP. 

Agak pelik jika orang Melayu 'tidak boleh menerima' DAP yang mewakili kaum Cina di-Semenanjung Malaysia apabila mereka boleh menerima Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) dari Sarawak. 

SUPP ditubuhkan pada tahun 1959. SUPP menyertai Perikatan pada tahun 1970 dan kekal setia bersama Barisan Nasional sehingga kini. 

The Sarawak United Peoples' Party, or SUPP (Chinese: 砂拉越人民联合党; Malay: Parti Rakyat Bersatu Sarawak; Iban: Gerempong Sa'ati Ra'ayat Sarawak) is a political party in Malaysia. The party is one of the constituent members of the ruling Barisan Nasional. It was established in 1959 mainly by leftists and working class Chinese, many of whom were members of the underground communist movement in Sarawak. - WIKIPEDIA

I interviewed Bong Kee Chok in Kuching many years ago for a short feature. He was then a loyal member of SUPP. The party had even nominated him for a state award which was cancelled at the eleventh hour. Guess Bong Kee Chok is still a member of Barisan Nasional via SUPP.     

This reference to SUPP is not in any way meant to insult or ridicule the party and or its members but is merely a lesson to those who think politics is cast in stone. It is also for those who forget easily. 

There is also ample proof that we, as a nation, have managed to tame communism. 

I believe chauvinism too could be managed, but not treason.

I think you are wrong...

One must either be embarrassingly naive or simply not clever to think Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would develop a sudden hiccup if you revoke the services of his Royal Malaysian Police traffic outriders / escorts. 

You cannot be right with such childish acts because even the staunches of his critics agree that the decision reflects the level of political maturity or rather the lack of it. This could be a classic case of power abuse too but that's not the point yet. 

Has the Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar explained the revocation of the traffic outriders? 

Those in the position of power, including the IGP, must remember to state the relevant legal provisions and Government regulations governing the services for a former Prime Minister of this nation. Let's stick to facts. 

I'm quite sure the IGP would not parrot the many statements by politicians, some repeatedly accusing Dr Mahathir of trying to topple a democratically elected Government. This 'trying to topple the Government' is nothing but a fictitious tale by birdbrained politicians who are fighting for their very own survival. There is nothing more to that. 

Opposition parties have been trying to topple the government since time in memorial. Is that a crime now? 

Dr Mahathir and other prominent leaders from a cross section of the society, plus the hundreds of thousands of Malaysians who have to-date signed the Citizen's Declaration are just demanding for a new Prime Minister.

What is wrong in urging for the current Prime Minister to make way for a new leader? This cannot be trumpeted as trying to topple the Government. It cannot possibly be, unless the Prime Minister is of the opinion that he is the Government of Malaysia. 

The whole world seems to know what Deklarasi Rakyat is, except for Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Abdul Razak, his minions and a shrinking number of subservient media outlets. 

Please read HERE before opening your mouth and making a fool of yourself again. Maybe you don't mind being branded 'stupid' but we are tired of shallow propaganda and outright stupidity. 

I think you are wrong if you think Malaysians are so stupid that you can continue to fool them with carrots and sticks. Dedak cannot be for public consumption.  

Spreading lies by whatever scale and means cannot possibly transform into truth. Whatever the justifications are, intentionally spreading lies for political survival cannot be accepted especially when its the interests of the nation up against that of an individual. 

Don't confuse the people with such cheap, tactless propaganda because a majority of the thinking populace get more information and could do cross references online. They cannot possibly be fooled by those subservient journalists and broadcasters. The traditional media is no longer the mainstream media. 

The mainstream media now is the online media. You can continue to block and ban but you cannot possibly contain this new mainstream media within your mould.

The sole aim of the Citizen's Declaration / Deklarasi Rakyat is to seek the immediate removal of our scandalous Prime Minister who is famous for the wrong reasons. Malaysians who agree with the move have been inking the declaration. The numbers must have been causing sleepless nights for some.

How many of you are not aware why Najib Razak and his strategic investment marvel 1MDB are famous all over the world now? 

How many of you know the truth but choose to defend the elephant in the room solely due to your greed and personal interests? 

I think you are wrong if you think the people don't know about the elephant. Millions from all around the world are surprised, not jealous, as we lead towards being crowned for the biggest financial scandal in world history. 

I think you are wrong if you think we should be proud of the scandalous 1MDB. 

I think you are wrong if you think the people of Sarawak would swallow all hook, line and sinker and love you till dooms day (Kiamat) because you are splashing them with 'allocations' and projects. 

I think you are wrong if you think that the Sarawak state election is about you and a landslide victory an endorsement of your leadership. Don't be fooled by the crowd around you, Najib Razak. 

Is the Sarawak state election not a state affair of an 'equal partner in Malaysia' ? 

None of the peninsula based Barisan Nasional political parties are contesting in the Sarawak state elections.  Lets state facts as they are. 

The Sarawak state election is about Barisan Nasional under the leadership of Sarawak's new Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem.  

From the state BN's point the outcome must reflect the continued unity in BN, slightly over two years after the smooth transition of power from Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud. 

Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib is currently the Governor of Sarawak and he retired after 33 years as the chief minister. During his tenure Tun Taib carried himself more like the Prime Minister of Sarawak, not another chief minister in Malaysia. 

There maybe shortcomings and mistakes but that is how it was as I have explored and experienced. Tun Taib carried Sarawak as an equal partner and that is Adenan's real challenge, to fill the shoes of his larger than life predecessor. 

As a man who is famous for having stood tall in times of political turbulences of yesteryear, in particular during the famous Ming Court saga, Adenan must be experienced enough to feel the pulse and understand the sentiments.

Many local leaders have repeatedly stated that the Sarawak state election is not about Najib Razak. A lot of people are surprised what the Umno president was doing campaigning in the election which was not even about him. 

The Sarawak state election is a democratic process for the people of Sarawak to elect their representatives to the Dewan Undangan Negeri or Council Negeri. An elected leader who commands majority support of the new 82-seat Council Negeri would then be duly appointed as the Chief Minister. 

The BN is widely expected to sail through this election with a clear 2/3 majority. Its just about the exact numbers now. Adenan would most likely be re-appointed as the legitimate chief minister. 

Winning or losing a couple of seats won't change the equation although someone desperate may be disappointed for lack of credit.

The election is about the people's continued endorsement of the Sarawak BN government to lead and administer Sarawak. All Sarawak BN components are local political parties. Lets get the facts right.

It must be emphasises that, despite the Team Adenan and presidential election styled campaigns, the election is very much about retaining the time tested Sarawak Barisan Nasional state government. 

I think you won't go wrong if you put your ears to the ground. 

It must be 'we' and not 'I'. Adenan should know this. I'm sure your personal library holds more wisdom than this simple fact about leadership. 

I think you should stand tall together with all vital components of the state BN coalition. That is your base. That is the heart of your political power. Standing together makes a team, not standing alone.

I think you are wrong if you think standing alone is leadership.

My advice to all those mainstream media editors and politicians who are overzealously in high gear to apple-polish their master, Don't cross the line! 

Please do continue to support a failed leader at your own peril but don't drag the palace into politics. 

Don't try to use or abuse the Royal Institution for your narrow self-serving politics. 

Don't twist, turn and completely disfigure what our Malay Rulers say with the best interest of this nation and her people at heart. 

If you happen to be a politician/ top editor who don't understand the English language, please get someone to translate the interview above and read it again for proper context.

TIDAK WAJAR MINTA TOLONG DR MAHATHIR

1. Saya tidak tawar untuk menolong sesiapa untuk mengatasi apa-apa masalah.

2. Dalam blog saya, saya tidak menuduh Dato Seri Najib melakukan apa-apa jenayah. Itu boleh ditentukan jika polis dapat membuat siasatan. Yang saya pohon ialah jawapan kepada soalan-soalan yang disuarakan oleh ramai rakyat.

3. Saya akui dimasa saya juga ada kehilangan wang negara. Tetapi rakyat dan dunia tahu bagaimana wang ini hilang. Kerugian yang dialami oleh Perwaja diketahui. Demikian juga dengan salah urus Bank Bumiputra oleh pengurusannya. Maminco rugi kerana London Metal Exchange memutuskan bahawa bijih timah yang dijual mengikut perjanjian jual beli yang sah tidak perlu ditunaikan dengan membekal logam berkenaan kepada pembeli. Ini diputuskan untuk menyelamat penjual yang tidak ada timah. Malaysia sebagai pembeli mengalami kerugian.

4. Saya ingin penerangan berkenaan bagaimana Konsortium Perkapalan dan Forex merugikan Kerajaan dan bagaimana saya terlibat dalam perkara ini.

5. Yang nyata ialah negara tahu dimana pergi wang yang dilabur semasa saya. Dalam perniagaan adakala untung, adakala rugi. Yang tidak boleh diterima ialah duit itu hilang tanpa diketahui kemana.

6. Hari ini nilai Ringgit jatuh sebanyak 70 sen. Tiap satu Ringgit jatuhnya matawang kita, negara, Kerajaan dan rakyat kerugian berbillion. Kejatuhan sebanyak 70 sen pun merugikan berbillion Ringgit juga.

7. Tetapi apabila Ringgit diselamatkan dari penyangak matawang, berbillion Ringgit duit Kerajaan diselamatkan. Dan ramai peniaga yang muflis dan hampir muflis terselamat pada tahun 1998. Lupakan sahajalah peristiwa ini kerana ia berlaku dizaman saya.

8. Tetapi dalam kes 1MDB, tidak ada jawapan yang munasabah berkenaan 42 billion Ringgit yang dihutang. Kenapa bayar lebih 10% komisyen kepada Goldman Sachs hanya kerana menjual bond atau membuat pinjaman bagi Kerajaan. Kenapa faedah 5.9% dikenakan, satu faedah yang amat tinggi.

9. Disoal juga peranaan Jho Low. Siapa dianya yang diberi kepercayaan mengendali wang 1MDB berbillion-billion ringgit milik syarikat Kerajaan. Tidak ada persamaan antara Jho Low dengan Daim yang saya lantik sebagai Menteri.

10. Dimana datangnya ratusan million Ringgit untuk membeli bangunan-bangunan dan melabur dalam filem “The Wolf of Wall Street” oleh Riza Aziz, anak tiri Dato Seri Najib.

11. Saya bukan tuduh Dato Seri Najib. Saya bertanya beberapa soalan kerana hutang berbillion ini akan ditanggung akhirnya oleh rakyat. Jawapan tidak juga diberi oleh mereka yang mengecam saya selain daripada berkata saya punyai kepentingan atau saya juga buat kerja yang sama.

12. Apabila saya letak jawatan satu usaha dibuat untuk mendapat bukti saya lesapkan duit Kerajaan. Kalau hendak buat siasatan lagi, saya tidak ada halangan.

Dahulu sokong, kenapa tidak sekarang?

13. Pembaca portal “Free Malaysia Today”, Izack Chin bertanya kenapa saya dahulu sokong Dato Seri Najib supaya mengganti Tun Abdullah. Pada masa itu Najib ternampak bersih. Sekarang ada syak wasangka dikalangan orang ramai yang tidak terjawab..

14. Sudah lapan tahun berlalu kenapa bangkit perkara ini? Ini bukan masalah lapan tahun dahulu. Yang saya soal ialah berkenaan masalah hari ini – masalah nyawa dua orang anggota polis yang dihukum bunuh. Amatlah tidak adil jika mereka dibunuh sedangkan mereka sebagai pegawai rendah polis hanya mengikut perintah.

15. Saya hanya tanya berkenaan siapa yang mengeluar perintah kepada Sirul dan rakannya.

Temasek and 1MDB

16. Salleh Said Kruak compares Low Taek Jho and my critic of him with the criticism against me regarding Ananda Krishan’s involvement in Petronas and the appointment of my friend Daim Zainuddin as Finance Minister. I really do not see any similarity.

17. Ananda Krishnan bought the race course in Jalan Ampang. He could develop this prime land by himself. But he decided to sell one half share of the 100 acres land to Petronas and developed it together. Later he sold his tower to Petronas. What is wrong with that? Petronas made tons of money from the project.

18. There is no similarity at all between Temasek of Singapore and 1MDB. Temasek did not lose money but money borrowed by 1MDB has disappeared.

19. 1MDB is not excess fund belonging to the Government. 1MDB borrowed all its billions. Borrowed money cannot be regarded as wealth. So far the only asset owned by 1MDB are the pieces of land bought from the Government at a price very much below market price. They have been highly revalued. But until they are sold, they cannot be used to pay the 42 billion the 1MDB borrowed. They cannot even pay the interest.

20. As for the comment that it is unfair for me to ask Najib to step down as he was elected through democratic process, I would like to remind Datuk Jamal (Md Yunos) that Tun Abdullah was also elected but Najib was partly instrumental in asking him to step down.

21. With regard to my political agenda, what is wrong with that? A Prime Minister must be seen to be clean and able to explain and answer questions and to be good for the country. Najib cannot even answer and has not answered any question, beyond exercising elegant silence or saying the allegations are not true.

22. There is also an attempt to divert attention from my question by saying that I am siding with the opposition, even that I have become leader of the opposition.

23. If saying something that is similar to the opposition makes me aligned with the opposition, then Najib must be more with the opposition than me because he agreed with the opposition to abolish the ISA, the prevention of crime law and ignore the NEP. He also wanted to abolish the Sedition Act as demanded by the opposition. If UMNO did not object the Sedition Act would have been abolished. So is Najib a member of the opposition?

24. I am still an UMNO member. My disagreement is with the leader, not with the party. I criticised the leader, not the party. It is simply because I want to see the party win. It will not win if Najib is the leader.

25. I had great hopes when Najib took over from Abdullah.

26. But he did even worse than Abdullah, losing more badly in Selangor where he was the Head of UMNO. Thre are so many scandals surrounding him now. His popularity is now even lower than when he led the BN in 2013. In a number of constituencies the margins won by Barisan Nasional (BN) are very narrow.

27. Sabah and Sarawak, are now no longer safe, no longer BN’s fixed deposits.

28. Is it too absurd to predict defeat for the BN in 2018.

29. As for my sons, if I had wanted them to succeed in politics I could have done so when I was Prime Minister. If they succeed it will be by their own effort. If the people don’t like them they will not get this support.

5-day poll says a little

Its a tiny little poll voted by a mere 521 but the outcome appears overwhelming on its own. A 95% rate of disapproval, even among ten heads, must certainly be a cause for concern. 

But I think such polls won't do a dent to the power of those in power today. They shall ignore all such serious signals and continue making promises and whip up sentiments when everything else seems impotent. 

Spin even when its out of control. Don't even hesitate to tell lies and/or threaten those who call the bluffs. 

Dismiss this as 'just a 5-day poll'.  

 We shall wait for the elections, whichever comes first.

Pemilihan Umno 2016

Umno cukup matang untuk mengharungi pemilihan parti?

If change does not happen, we have to engineer the change. Justeru pada hemat saya, wajar untuk kita pertimbangkan pemilihan parti dilaksanakan mengikut kehendak Perlembagaan UMNO dan tidak ditangguhkan selepas pilihanraya umum seperti yang pernah dibuat sebelum ini. Saya juga mencadangkan pindaan Perlembagaan UMNO diadakan tahun hadapan dengan memperuntukkan pindaan yang sesuai untuk membolehkan barisan pelapis muda menyumbang peranan dan khidmat bakti yang lebih besar kepada UMNO. Saya percaya UMNO tidak akan berpecah sekiranya pemilihan diadakan. - Timbalan Presiden Umno Tan Sri Haji Muhyiddin Yassin 


Mengikut perlembagaan Umno, dan jika perlembagaan itu tidak 'di-usik', proses pemilihan dalam parti harus dilaksanakan pada tahun hadapan - 2016. 

Harapan semakin tinggi agar suara hati Timbalan Presiden yang dizahirkan dalam ucapan perasmian sayap Umno- ketika perhimpunan agong 2014 - masih kekal jitu melambangkan pendirian. 

Jangan pula ada usaha untuk memburukan Timbalan Presiden atau pemimpin tertinggi Umno yang lain hanya kerana mereka bersependapat berkenaan perubahan dalam Umno.

Jangan pula gunakan media soSial serta media arus perdana dibawah telunjuk para punahsihat untuk mencaci cerca dan menghamburkan fitnah atau merekacipta video lucah. 

Jangan pula gunakan pemimpin PKR yang disogok atau NGO murahan yang diupah untuk mencatur kelangsungan politik peribadi. Itu permainan jijik yang akan memakan diri. 

Ramai yang berharap agar Muhyiddin sendiri berdiri teguh walau didesak, mahupun diugut. Tidak goyah, gusar, gundah gulana atau terfikir untuk membuat pusingan U. 

Disertakan sebahagian lagi potongan kata-kata Timbalan Presiden Umno yang mendapat sokongan padu ketika perhimpunan agong beberapa bulan yang lalu dipenghujung tahun 2014.

"36.Dalam rangka menyediakan ucapan saya pada malam ini, saya mendapatkan pandangan pemuda dan pemudi Melayu mengenai UMNO. Mereka terdiri daripada graduan muda, golongan profesional, aktivis masyarakat, usahawan dan ahli akademik. Bagi saya, pandangan orang muda terhadap UMNO adalah penting dalam menentukan survival UMNO. Orang muda merupakan pewaris perjuangan parti kita, dan pandangan mereka tentang UMNO akan menentukan jatuh bangunnya UMNO pada masa hadapan. 

37. Saya bertanya kepada mereka apa persepsi mereka terhadap UMNO? Apa aspirasi mereka? Apa harapan mereka? Apa kebimbangan mereka? Apa perkara penting yang hendak disampaikan kepada UMNO? Saya minta supaya mereka bercakap secara jujur, ikhlas dan terbuka. Saya ingin tahu apa yang perlu UMNO lakukan supaya anak-anak muda di luar sana ghairah untuk berada bersama-sama kita dalam saf perjuangan UMNO. 

38. Izinkan saya berkongsi pandangan mereka dengan saudara dan saudari pada malam ini. Pertama, mereka kata UMNO sedang mengalami trust deficit atau defisit kepercayaan; kedua, UMNO ini parti feudal; ketiga, dalam UMNO ada budaya play safe dan budaya pak turut; keempat, UMNO dikuasai oleh warlord; dan kelima, UMNO diancam oleh budaya ugut dan budaya tabur. Ini kata mereka.

39. Mereka menjelaskan satu persatu kepada saya apa yang mereka maksudkan dengan kelima-lima perkara ini. Mengenai defisit kepercayaan, mereka beritahu saya mereka sebenarnya sokong perjuangan UMNO. Mereka sayang kepada UMNO. Bagi mereka tidak ada parti lain yang boleh diharapkan untuk mempertahankan agama, bangsa dan tanah air melainkan UMNO. Cumanya, mereka ingin melihat pemimpin UMNO di setiap peringkat lebih berintegriti, lebih amanah, lebih jujur, lebih telus, tidak terpalit dengan gejala rasuah, tidak menonjolkan kemewahan yang berlebihan, tidak bergaduh sesama sendiri dan sebagainya. Jika ini boleh dilakukan, maka orang muda akan percaya semula kepada UMNO. 

40. Mereka juga tidak mahu UMNO terlalu terikat dengan hirerki hingga mewujudkan gambaran parti kita menjadi parti feudal sehingga orang bawah tidak boleh bersuara selagi orang atas tidak bersuara. Sehinggakan hendak beri pandangan pun kena tengok apa orang atas kata. Kalau orang atas kata A, maka yang di bawah mesti kata A. Kalau orang atas kata B, yang di bawah pun mesti kata B. 

41. Menurut mereka lagi, orang muda dalam UMNO mempunyai idea-idea yang bernas tetapi merasakan lebih baik diam daripada bercanggah pandangan dengan orang atas. Ada yang kata kalau bercakap lebih sedikit nanti dianggap hendak memandai. Ada pula yang beri nasihat orang muda mesti berhati-hati dalam politik. Jangan terlalu menonjol. Jangan terlalu laju. Nanti kena sekat, nanti kena cantas, kena kerat, kena sabo, kena cah keting, kena terajang dan lain-lain lagi. Jadi, lama-kelamaan mereka fikir lebih baik diam daripada bercakap, atau lebih selamat jadi pak turut saja. Seolahnya ada satu budaya play safe, atau budaya pilih jalan selamat dalam UMNO.

42. Akibatnya, dalam UMNO, lebih ramai orang memilih untuk berdiam diri daripada bercakap. Ini mewujudkan persepsi bahawa parti kita sedang dilanda budaya kelesuan. Akhirnya, orang Melayu dan rakyat tertanya-tanya di mana suara keramat UMNO? Di mana taring Pemuda? Di mana ketegasan Wanita? Di mana kelantangan Puteri? Kesannya, kita seolahnya ketandusan pemimpin untuk menjuarai kepentingan orang Melayu. Sehinggakan timbul cakap-cakap di luar sana yang mengatakan NGO Melayu lebih lantang daripada UMNO dalam memperjuangkan hak dan kepentingan Melayu. 

43. Bagi saya, kita perlu membuktikan bahawa UMNO bukannya sebuah parti yang lesu. UMNO bukannya parti yang mempunyai budaya pak turut, budaya nyanyi, budaya puji, budaya lambung, budaya ampu sana ampu sini. UMNO adalah parti yang berwibawa, parti yang ada idealisme, parti yang ada masa depan, parti pilihan anak-anak muda. Ingatlah, orang muda hari ini tidak suka jadi pak turut. Mereka naik geli dengan budaya ampu. Mereka benci budaya sabo. Mereka tolak budaya cah keting. Jika kita boleh buang semua budaya negatif ini jauh-jauh, saya yakin UMNO akan menjadi parti pilihan orang muda. 

44. Satu lagi ialah budaya warlord. Ramai yang beritahu saya dalam UMNO ada banyak warlord. Mereka ini amat berkuasa kerana mempunyai ramai pengikut setia yang sanggup melakukan apa sahaja untuk mereka. Dengan sokongan pengikut, warlord akan mengugut pemimpin atasan parti untuk berikan apa sahaja yang mereka minta. Jika tak diberi, mereka akan sabo parti dalam pilihan raya. 

45. Kita perlu buktikan bahawa warlord bukan sebahagian daripada budaya UMNO. Kita menolak sikap sekalangan yang cuba untuk kekal berkuasa dengan menabur kemewahan kepada pengikut. Sehinggakan ada yang kata tak payah buat kerja dalam UMNO. Yang perlu dibuat ialah kumpul kekayaan untuk tabur kemewahan kepada pengikut supaya mereka sentiasa setia. Keadaan ini menyebabkan kos politik menjadi semakin mahal. Yang tiada wang tidak boleh masuk politik. Walaupun ada bakat, ada kelulusan, ada kebolehan, mereka tak mampu untuk bergerak aktif dalam parti jika tiada wang. Saya bimbang, akhirnya nanti yang naik dalam hirerki parti adalah orang yang ada wang, bukan orang yang ada kebolehan. Orang kata money is everything in politics. No money, no talk. Seolahnya, wang adalah kuasa, wang adalah segala-galanya.

46. Saya kadang kala terfikir adakah sudah tidak ada keikhlasan dan kejujuran dalam perjuangan? Adakah sudah tidak ada nilai pengorbanan dalam politik? Adakah pengikut menilai pemimpin semata-mata berdasarkan kemampuan mereka untuk tabur kemewahan? Adakah pemimpin mengukur kesetiaan pengikut berdasarkan harga yang mereka bayar? Bagi saya, budaya ugut dan tabur ini amat bahaya kepada parti kita. Budaya ini akan menyebabkan politik wang berleluasa di dalam parti. Pengikut yang terima wang akan suka. Mereka puji pemimpin yang boleh beri sesuatu kepada mereka. Tetapi jangan kita lupa. Rakyat di luar sana tak suka politik wang. Mereka curiga bila lihat orang politik hidup mewah. Tak setimpal dengan pendapatan. Apatah lagi jika ada yang suka menunjuk-nunjuk kemewahan. Rakyat akan mula menuduh bermacam perkara yang tidak baik terhadap parti kita. Inilah punca masalah trust deficit atau defisit kepercayaan terhadap UMNO. Jadi, ingatlah. Apa guna kita naik dalam hirerki parti, tetapi rakyat menolak parti kita kerana mereka tidak suka dengan imej dan sikap kita. 

47. Apa yang saya sebutkan ini adalah persepsi dan kritikan orang muda terhadap UMNO. Barangkali ada yang betul, ada juga yang kurang tepat. Tetapi mengambil yang baik daripada kritikan ini adalah lebih afdal. Ini membuktikan bahawa UMNO adalah parti yang terbuka dan kita sentiasa bermuhasabah. Sepertimana firman Allah s.w.t. dalam Surah Al-Zumar Ayat 18:

ٱلَّذِينَ يَسۡتَمِعُونَ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ فَيَتَّبِعُونَ أَحۡسَنَهُ ۥۤ‌ۚ أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ ٱلَّذِينَ هَدَٮٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ‌ۖ وَأُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ هُمۡ أُوْلُواْ ٱلۡأَلۡبَـٰبِ

Yang bermaksud:

Yang berusaha mendengar perkataan-perkataan yang sampai kepadanya lalu mereka memilih dan menurut akan yang sebaik-baiknya (pada segi hukum agama); mereka itulah orang-orang yang diberi hidayat petunjuk oleh Allah dan mereka itulah orang-orang yang berakal sempurna.

Apakah Umno akan 'dihijack' dan diperalat untuk kelangsungan kuasa individu tertentu serta keluarga mereka atau mungkinkah usaha transformasi Najib yang turut disokong dan didokong oleh Muhyiddin akan berhasil. 

Katanya sebahagian besar Ahli Majlis Tertinggi Umno bersetuju agar perlembagaan Umno dipatuhi tanpa apa-apa usaha luar kerangka untuk menangguh proses pemilihan pada tahun hadapan - 2016.  

Apakah ada pemimpin Umno yang cuba menggagalkan usaha Transformasi yang dipikul Najib Razak ini?

Kita tunggu dan lihat... jika ada cahaya dihujung terowong untuk Umno.

Beginning of the end

Remember! Leadership is about leading. When you can't lead, the best thing to do would be to leave before people on this side of the plank start leaving. 

One guy is already leaving (in the visual above). You better take note of the situation and do something real so the others don't follow suit. If you continue to live in denial, the rest will surely leave. That's for sure. 

Plus the weight of the rostrum, you will fall even before the last few decides to dump you. 

You may get your advisors and apple-polishers to stand by your side, but that would add on the weight and make you fall sooner than later. 

This is a reminder. Think about it. You may want to continue to live in denial based on the theories and justifications presented by your able advisors and assistants. That's purely your choice. 

The fact of the matter is that people have lost any little hope that they had in you when you started telling lies. Don't even attempt to fool the people with more cash and goodies, it simply doesn't work. 

Trust me, even people in the flood-stricken interiors of the peninsula could call your bluff. 

The charade in your own grouping have started rolling out too, indicating a serious tussle for power. Lieutenants realise that your days are numbered so they're jostling for seats.

While your position is precarious, your so called political operatives are busy creating more enemies from personalities who used to be your mentor and friends. 

Your operatives are nothing but the proverbial wolf in sheep's clothing. They only remain relevant when there is conflict and as long as you are weak, thus the 'game' to keep you dependent on their black ops. Its actually a scam. A recent episode should remind you of this situation.     

To me, this is the beginning of the end.  Your time is coming to an end. It may be bitter but that is the fact of the matter. 

If you don't trust what I say, go look for another shaman.

Time to review ESSCOM

The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) is once again under the spotlight for the wrong reasons. Slightly over a year since the Prime Minister announced its formation and barely a week before the first anniversary of the appointment of its top office bearers, ESSCOM is under fire.

ESSCOM is under fire for its perceived ineffectiveness in ensuring the safety and security of Sabah, particularly the east coast of Sabah.

Is ESSCOM, with almost an exact DNA of the Rajang Area Security Command (Rascom) which was formed more than 40 years ago in 1972,  really ineffective?

Is it truly toothless or are we witnessing the failure of those entrusted to make ESSCOM work for the people of Sabah?

This issue was even discussed in Parliament following an Emergency Motion tabled by an Opposition MP from Sabah. While the tabling of the motion is commendable, the Opposition and some Government MPs were obviously more interested in cheap politics rather than wanting a solution.

Calling for the disbandment of ESSCOM is plain stupid. What do you do after ESSCOM is disbanded? Create a new security set up and spend more money?

Linking the kidnapping to RCI on Illegal Immigrants/fake ICs is nothing but cheaper than cheap politics to stir resentment against the ruling coalition. Suggesting the shutting down of resorts on islands of the east coast of Sabah is not smart either.

The emergency motion in Parliament just flowed down into the drain because only a few was interested in finding a solution. A big majority of the MPs were merely pointing fingers.

This latest brouhaha following the kidnapping of two persons from a resort 5 minutes off the coast of Semporna, almost exactly on ESSCOM's first anniversary is indeed a blessing in disguise.

The Government, PM Najib Razak and Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman to be specific, must grab this opportunity to initiate a comprehensive review of ESSCOM to enhance its effectiveness.

It would be dumb to say ESSCOM has been useless for the last one year but it would be equally naive to think that all is perfect in the set up and/or the way it is being run.

If we want to have better results and prevent further kidnapping and organized criminal activities on the east coast and Sabah in general, we must initiate change.

An all encompassing review would most certainly tell you what and who to change. For a start, the Government may want to consider someone with the relevant experience to head ESSCOM. This complete review of ESSCOM must also include a review on all the main agencies and their role in the last year.

Non cooperative servants of the government must be shipped out.

This is an opportunity for the Government to enhance the role of ESSCOM and deliver on the promise to make Sabah a safer place for all.

We should not be doing it solely for the tourist dollar. Be sincere and do it because we want our people to be safe in their own country.

Insanity, as quoted above, is if we close our eyes and ears and continue to do the same things over and over again while expecting better results.

Please act now before people lose trust... completely.

Once again the rumour mill appears to be on overdrive, discussing Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud's impending resignation as Chief Minister of Sarawak. 

The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu president and state Barisan Nasional chairman is said to be wanting to step down and that he had called for a meeting to discuss this with both his party leaders and the bigger BN family in Sarawak.

Pehin Sri Taib will turn 78 on next May 21. He is still as fit as a fiddle and enjoys a razor sharp mind. While his detractors are busy with their politics and polemics, Taib has been busy charting the future of Sarawak. 

The success of Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) and its spinoffs, both economic and social, is top most in his list of priorities. 

Who succeeds the grand old man has always been a concern among Malaysians because Taib's shoes are too big to be filled by just any other politician. 

Abdul Taib Mahmud is to Sarawak like what Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is to Malaysia. 

Many have learned, some the hard way, that it is impossible to dictate or read Taib. His focus and greatest concern is how best to ensure peace, stability and the prosperity of Sarawak. 

Certainly there are untold fears that the current racial-religious polemics, especially the brand of politics of hatred in the peninsula, could threaten the social fabric of the truly multiracial/multiethnic/multireligious 1Malaysia society of Sarawak. 

Taib is not a populist by any means but an old school politician who believes in discipline and loyalty. He has served all the Prime Ministers of this country, managing a cordial trustworthy relationship even at the worse of times. 

Sarawak could be the richest and the best managed state in the country but Taib doesn't flaunt the state coffers with handouts for political patronage. Ask any of his party leaders and members and they will relate to you the level of discipline in PBB. 

Many, especially the Opposition, will have ghost-stories to tell you about the lawyer who had once served as the Judge's Associate in the South Australian Government but each and every one of them will not be able to substantiate their tall tales about the man. 

So, who in the right frame of mind would think and/or believe that Taib Mahmud would let you dictate his next move or course of action? 

Taib is the master of his game, not a paymaster.
