Sabah state election in April ?

POLITICAL CYCLE... Musa Aman traveled all the way from Kota Kinabalu to Alor Setar to cycle alongside Najib Razak in this early ride on Feb 11, barely 12 hours after news of an impending resignation of a senior BN minister broke out late on Feb 10, 2017.

Sabah could go for an early election, probably within the next two months, in a ruling party's move to test political undercurrents and general sentiments. It is a decision made for Sabah, by Putrajaya.   

Candies and cookies are being actively prepared to woo voters. They come with tags, worth at least a few billion ringgit. Santa Claus could be expected to roam the land below the wind, long before Christmas this year.

Up for grabs would be 60 state seats. The outcome would set the tone for the next election. The 14th general election. Sabah has 25 parliamentary seats.

In Sabah, Barisan Nasional represents 48 state constituencies and Datuk Panglima Musa Aman the BN chairman leads the government as the chief minister. Musa has been in that position for the last 14 years. He could be well on his way out.

Sabahans are being offered a new Chief Minister. The little cabinet is of the view that removing Musa would be a game changer, sort of a breath of fresh air to override negative sentiments against BN and its national leadership.  

But removing Musa could work both ways. It may well be the solution but also highly likely to be the achilles heel to BN in Sabah and elsewhere. 

When Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali queried, via his Twitter site, if a senior minister had tendered his resignation due to the 1MDB scandal a couple of days ago, there were streams of denials and ridicule. 

Some denials were rabid. 

Which member of the federal cabinet could have likely thrown in the towel after a gush of consciousness over 1MDB? Reading between the lines were interesting.

Najib said he would consider Azmin a liar if the mentri besar failed to name the quitting minister. Azmin responded that his query was based on a personal chat with a particular minister. It's from the horse's mouth, he stressed.   

Hours later, speaking from Kota Kinabalu,  Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi nailed it. He announced that the minister rumoured to have tendered his resignation was NOT Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman. 

Why the focus on Anifah Aman, the younger brother of Musa Aman the chief minister? Azmin did not name Anifah. 

Its unlikely both Musa and Anifah are on their way out although Salleh Said Keruak and Rahman Dahlan may appear increasingly impatient. 

But Anifah has been rather quiet lately. Talk of the minister having tendered his resignation was quite low-key, mainly due to two other similar previous rumours in the not so distant past. 

As Foreign Minister, Anifah would certainly have more reasons to tender his resignation now than any other instance in the history of our nation. That is obvious as far as Wisma Putra stands today, or rather crouches these days. 

Certainly Anifah must be having a tough time trying to reconcile his 'no-nonsense' stature with having to ignore concessions for multiple FDIs from China. 

China's foreign direct interferences in Malaysia is increasingly evident after their controversial foreign direct investments. The Chinese embassy appears busy with local issues and partisan politics, to the extend of breaching diplomatic norms and criticising Malaysian leaders.  

China is taking its OBOR a bit too far.

Maybe Anifah has learned to tolerate foreign lectures on 'how to address the former President of Taiwan or what should be an Asean communique'. Maybe not, but the tough-talking foreign minister has been very silent.  

Talk has it that an impending resignation has been tentatively put on hold after a fast direct intervention, another FDI, by the prime minister. 

A two hour negotiation at a leading hospital's cardiac care unit ward in Kuala Lumpur seems to have put things on hold pending the outcome of an ongoing horse trading. 

In a latest development, sources say, the Ketua Pemuda Umno Malaysia post (to be delivered during the next party election) has been added to the plate to persuade Musa Aman to a smooth transition. 

'The youth chief post is for CM's son who is currently Sabah youth chief. CM could be made the next Governor of Sabah. Basically he doesn't have any choice, especially with the recent SPRM cases involving Jabatan Air," a Sabah state assemblyman opined. 

The bigger question, according to the native leader, is who will be Musa Aman's successor. Anifah may not last with a new state BN leader.

"Putrajaya is pushing for Datuk Panglima Salleh Keruak but the local sentiment favours Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor (Sulaman state assemblyman). I won't be surprised if the state BN officially proposes Hajiji. He is a well liked leader who is capable of being that game changer.

"Rahman Dahlan is not even part of the equation," the assemblyman quipped. 

A long-time Musa aide who played a pivotal role in negotiations during the 2013 Lahad Datu incursion painted a rather defiant picture when deliberating these latest developments in Sabah politics. 

He vouched that Musa still enjoyed strong support and is capable of turning the tables if he is pushed to the corner. 

"When Tun M (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) and Anwar Ibrahim could shake hands and make up we cannot rule out or be surprised if Musa Aman and Shafie Apdal decide to bury the hatchet. Politics is the art of the impossible," he said, assuring that the coming state election would be an interesting affair. 

Whether the election is held separately in April as planned or done together with states from the peninsula in September/October, Sabah is a political time bomb to many an observer.

Time to review ESSCOM

The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) is once again under the spotlight for the wrong reasons. Slightly over a year since the Prime Minister announced its formation and barely a week before the first anniversary of the appointment of its top office bearers, ESSCOM is under fire.

ESSCOM is under fire for its perceived ineffectiveness in ensuring the safety and security of Sabah, particularly the east coast of Sabah.

Is ESSCOM, with almost an exact DNA of the Rajang Area Security Command (Rascom) which was formed more than 40 years ago in 1972,  really ineffective?

Is it truly toothless or are we witnessing the failure of those entrusted to make ESSCOM work for the people of Sabah?

This issue was even discussed in Parliament following an Emergency Motion tabled by an Opposition MP from Sabah. While the tabling of the motion is commendable, the Opposition and some Government MPs were obviously more interested in cheap politics rather than wanting a solution.

Calling for the disbandment of ESSCOM is plain stupid. What do you do after ESSCOM is disbanded? Create a new security set up and spend more money?

Linking the kidnapping to RCI on Illegal Immigrants/fake ICs is nothing but cheaper than cheap politics to stir resentment against the ruling coalition. Suggesting the shutting down of resorts on islands of the east coast of Sabah is not smart either.

The emergency motion in Parliament just flowed down into the drain because only a few was interested in finding a solution. A big majority of the MPs were merely pointing fingers.

This latest brouhaha following the kidnapping of two persons from a resort 5 minutes off the coast of Semporna, almost exactly on ESSCOM's first anniversary is indeed a blessing in disguise.

The Government, PM Najib Razak and Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman to be specific, must grab this opportunity to initiate a comprehensive review of ESSCOM to enhance its effectiveness.

It would be dumb to say ESSCOM has been useless for the last one year but it would be equally naive to think that all is perfect in the set up and/or the way it is being run.

If we want to have better results and prevent further kidnapping and organized criminal activities on the east coast and Sabah in general, we must initiate change.

An all encompassing review would most certainly tell you what and who to change. For a start, the Government may want to consider someone with the relevant experience to head ESSCOM. This complete review of ESSCOM must also include a review on all the main agencies and their role in the last year.

Non cooperative servants of the government must be shipped out.

This is an opportunity for the Government to enhance the role of ESSCOM and deliver on the promise to make Sabah a safer place for all.

We should not be doing it solely for the tourist dollar. Be sincere and do it because we want our people to be safe in their own country.

Insanity, as quoted above, is if we close our eyes and ears and continue to do the same things over and over again while expecting better results.

Please act now before people lose trust... completely.

LAHAD DATU: Tian Chua "lowest form of human life", berates Tunku Aziz

KUALA LUMPUR: Several leaders and political observers have lambasted Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Tian Chua who reportedly linked today's shooting incident in Lahad Datu, Sabah, with an allegation of a conspiracy hatched by the Umno government to divert attention and frighten the people.

They said Tian Chua's statement was irresponsible and extreme, considering it was about the authorities confronting an armed group from southern Philippines to safeguard the country's peace and security.

Former DAP vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim described the statement as a "standard script of the DAP" which was completely insensitive to the country's security.

"By making this kind of statement, he (Tian Chua) must be regarded as the lowest form of human life. This is a careless remark which isn't what we expect from a decent human being," he said when contacted by Bernama.

Among others, the report also appeared in PKR's official news website which quoted Tian Chua as saying the intrusion in Lahad Datu was a drama of the government to frighten the people, as if the situation in Sabah was unsafe.

Two police commandos were slain while three others were injured in a firefight in Kampung Tanduo, Lahad Datu involving a group of armed intruders from southern Philippines, in which 12 intruders were killed. 

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Ahmad Maslan described Tian Chua's statement as "evil and ignorant" as Umno did not gamble with the country's security.

Malay rights group Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali tagged Tian Chua a "serial liar" who was always finding fault with Umno and the government despite the grave situation (in Lahad Datu). 

Former president of the Malaysian Ex-Army Association Datuk Muhammad Abdul Ghani said, all parties should come together and not mix politics with the security of the country. 

He stressed that appropriate action should be taken against Tian Chua and any other quarters seen as inciting the people to prevent a recurrence of such sensitive statements. BERNAMA

Umno's recent decision to withdraw the party's defamation suit against PKR vice president Tian Chua has raised not only eyebrows but numerous questions from even Umno leaders and elders. 

The allegations, as stated in the above news report published on 2nd of March 2013, were certainly serious enough to invoke the disgust of even the Director of the International Institute of Public Ethics, Tunku Aziz. 

Umno withdrew the defamation suit although Tian Chua refused to apologise, or so I was told. Correct me if I'm wrong. 

As it is Tian Chua is yet to be put on the stand for his previous doctored-pic defamation. A case where the offender had publicly admitted his shameless act.

Nothing happens to the 'wicked monger' ?

Did those who were shot and killed, and those who were injured and maimed in Lahad Datu, sacrifice to be insulted. It's worse when such insult goes unpunished.    

You shook hands with the evil (as stated by Dtk Ahmad Maslan - Umno's Information chief) and let it go without even an apology, at least to the family of those who died for this nation in Lahad Datu and Semporna? 

Why?

Many in Umno/BN, I believe, still appreciate good values and would go the extra mile to protect them. This is about the dignity of our security forces and the government. 

You cannot possibly surrender your dignity as bargaining chip in some murky political wheeling and dealing.

Should the Government now step forward and put a rest to this spineless new sandiwara? 

Institute a fresh suit against Tian Chua. Let him explain the whole 'sandiwara' saga.

Tian Chua, I think,  is not above the law. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The minister never mentioned 'Sabah dan Sarawak' in his reply. It was a general statement made in Dewan Rakyat, not at a warong kopi next to Anwar's boyfriend's grandmother's house. It was at the Parliament, so every word is recorded in the Hansard.

Malaysiakini, it appears, is back at its old trick of spinning news beyond recognition. Their tactic is well known among the media circle by now. Their modus operandi is simple. Intentionally cook up some bullshit that could have irreversible political damage to BN and then quickly remove/correct/apologise. Damage done and they get away with it scot-free.  

Their bullshit may have been exposed but don't be surprised that there are many who continue to believe in the original bullshit that is as far as it could be from the facts of the matter. You don't trust me?

Ambank KILLER nabbed in JB

Woke up to another good news delivered by the Inspector General of Police himself. The ruthless security guard who shot dead a female bank officer in cold blood and escaped with about RM450,000 from an Ambank branch in USJ Subang has been detained. 

It is good that this cold blooded murderer has been caught alive as we, as much as the authorities, are eager to know how he managed to fool so many people before committing the heinous crime on Oct 23.  

I'm sure the Home Ministry will be as eager, if not more, to get to the root cause of a 'security agency' scandal that is slowly unfolding after the Ambank murder/robbery. 

We hear so many stories of how security licenses are used/abused by those who once helped us uphold the law. No one knows how many criminals are masquerading as security guards (some armed) as there seems to be a big hole in the system. 

A thorough review of the hundreds of security licenses would not be too much to ask for from the Home Ministry, I guess.

There are 751 security firms licensed to operate in the country employing some 226,000 guards but what is shocking is a revelation by the Security Services
Association of Malaysia (SSAM) that at least 30,000 of the guards are illegals!

The question that begs asking is: "Does the country have too many such firms for the authorities, in this case, the handful of staff in the particular section of the Home
Ministry to cope with policing them?"

WANTED TERRORIST Jamalul Kiram III is dead

MANILA, Philippines (Updated) – Jamalul Kiram III, leader of the Sultanate of Sulu, died Sunday morning, October 20, of organ failure at the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City, his spokesperson Abraham Idjirani said.

He was 75, his daughter Princess Jacel Kiram said in a DZBB radio interview.

Idjirani said relatives will still discuss the funeral arrangements Sunday morning but Kiram made a wish before he passed away to be buried in the traditional capital of the Sultanate of Sulu, in Maimbung, Sulu.

Kiram revived the Sultanate's claim to the Eastern Malaysian state of Sabah late February 2013 – a move that resulted in a standoff of Malaysian security troops and his "Royal Sultanate Forces." (READ:Sultan infuriates PH, Malaysia)

He asked his siblings to continue the Sultanate's fight to reclaim Sabah, Idjirani said, adding that Kiram spoke with his brother Raja Agbimuddin Kiram, who led the Sabah standoff, over the phone a day before he died.

Several followers of the Sultanate of Sulu are presently facing terrorism-related charges in Malaysiaover the incident.

In 2007, Kiram ran for senator under then president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's Team Unity slate.

MANILA, Philippines – Sultan Jamalul Kiram III died on Sunday, his daughter told Radyo Inquirer 990AM.

Princess Jacel Kiram said the 75-year old heir of the Sulu sultanate died of multiple organ failure at the Philippine Heart Center at 4:42 a.m. on Sunday.

She said Kiram, who made headlines in February after his men clashed with Malaysian forces in a bid to reclaim Sabah, has long been suffering from kidney problems. He has been confined in the said hospital since Thursday.

“Whatever my father started, he left for us to continue…We should not falter. He’s a great man, a good man. He was priceless. All he wanted was, in his right time, be allowed by Allah to reclaim Sabah for the Filipinos…We’ll be the ones to continue that,” she said.

She said Kiram’s passing was not that hard for the family to accept since her father had already instilled in them that things happen because of the “will of Allah.”

The younger Kiram said they might bring the remains to Jolo, Sulu.

On February 9, 2013, at least 200 men led by the Sultan’s brother Rajah Mudah Agbimuddin Kiram landed in Lahad Datu to reclaim Sabah for the Philippines. The standoff between Kiram’s men and Malaysian authorities had resulted in deadly clashes.

Kiram, one of the heirs of the Sulu sultanate, said they wanted the Philippines to pursue the historical claim on Sabah through the International Court of Justice or the United Nations. His group claims that Sabah was merely leased to the British North Borneo Co. which later transferred its rights to Malaysia. Amid Malaysia claiming Sabah as its state, the Malaysian Embassy in the Philippines reportedly continues to issue a check of 5,300 ringgit to the heirs of the Sulu sultanate. Malaysia calls it “cession” payment but the sultanate’s descendants consider it lease payment.

Pingat KEDAULATAN Negara for Dummies

I'm sure the pictures above would bring back a wide range of memories of Ops Sulu - Ops Daulat in Lahad Datu Sabah. 

Ops Sulu, which was later re-named Ops Daulat due to local sensitivities, was launched after a bunch of foreign funded lunatics presumably under the control of a crazy old man (who thinks he is the Sultan of Sulu and the rightful owner of Sabah) invaded Kampung Tanduo near Lahad Datu. The intruders were armed and our security forces (at that point of time confined to PDRM personnel) quickly cordoned the area.

Due to reasons and instruction which can't be spelled out here, the approved approach at that point of time was to end the stand-off without any bloodshed. Emissaries were dispatched to Manila and a few other locations to negotiate for those bunch of lunatics to leave Kampung Tanduo without any untoward incident. 

We realised a little too late that these were not a bunch of ordinary lunatics but part of a bigger scheme of things orchestrated from a different level. That is a different story to be told on another day.

The 'restraint' imposed on the security forces was only lifted after those bunch of lunatics, or rather their snipers, killed two of our VAT69 police commandos in a 'white flag' incident.   

That sparked an all out WAR to weed out those barbaric Sulu intruders, either dead or alive. That was the beginning of Ops Daulat. 

In the end, 8 police officers and 2 soldiers were killed while many were scarred for life. (One of the soldier was killed in an accident while transporting food supply to the battle ground).

At least one stupid politician had claimed that Ops Daulat was the government playacting but many children lost their father, wives became widows overnight and parents lost their sons. It was heart wrenching just looking at their face at the TUDM base in Subang when they turned up to receive the remains of their loved ones. 

We cried watching this video on the 206th Police Day.  

When Ops Daulat was nearing its closure and the Eastern Sabah Security Command was in place, someone with a big heart in the Home Ministry came with the idea of recognising all those who gave their life and limb to protect this nation of ours. Non-security personnel who risked their lives were also to be included for the award. 

The Pingat Kedaulatan Negara was then created, after careful deliberations of its shape, color and etc. 

Initially it was awarded to the kin of our HEROES who gave their lives for Malaysia. Those family members stood up and received the PKN medals with great honor and pride, many from the Prime Minister himself. 

PKN was also awarded for those policemen and soldiers who were injured during Ops Daulat. Later on it was extended to selected policemen and soldiers who had directly or indirectly played a role in the battle field. 

The award was in recognition of selfless contribution during Ops Daulat.

But recently Pingat Kedaulatan Negara was cheapened by none other than the Prime Minister himself... via the professionalism of his Press Secretary Datuk Akmar Hisham and the Director General of the Information Department Datuk Ibrahim Abdul Rahman. 

I heard Home Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi was also aware of the stupid... DAMN BLOODY STUPID idea of awarding the same Pingat Kedaulatan Negara to more than TWO HUNDRED media personnel who were on duty in Lahad Datu during Ops Daulat. 

Both the PM's Press Secretary and the publicity savvy Information DG had also awarded Pingat Kedaultan Negara for themselves... and yes it was pinned on them by none other than the PM himself.

The criteria for PKN? You (media) must have been on duty at the Felda Resort in Felda Sahabat (where the media centre was located) for a minimum of three days. 

It is NOT STUPID to recognise the contribution of the media personnel, including the drivers, lighting man, technicians,  those audio guys, make-up artists and all their bosses from Sabah to Putrajaya, and even those MAS/AirAsia pilots who flew the media to KK/Lahad Datu from KL. 

They should have been given Letter of Appreciation by the Prime Minister or the Information Minister... FULL STOP! 
 
Awarding Pingat Kedaulatan Negara, the same medal which was awarded to the fallen Heroes, to every Tom, DICK and Harry is not only STUPID but its an act of betrayal.

Don't you guys give a damn about the feelings of the children, wives, siblings and parents of those policemen and soldiers who died for this nation?  You guys have no sense of shame?

I was told earlier today that the same Press Secretary wants to pacify those who have been criticising him. It seems he was planning to get the PM to award them (critics) the same PKN medals. 

You see how idiots think and behave. People are questioning your stupidity not because they didn't get the PKN medal lah BODOH! 

PKN is exclusive for our security personnel and selected civilians who are deemed to have played pivotal/vital role during our war in Lahad Datu. 

I also heard that there are plans, by some politicians in position of power, to award more Pingat Kedaulatan Negara to civilians, village heads... and maybe political leaders at branch, division and other levels in Sabah. 

I hope Home Minister DS Zahid will step up and stop any further abuses of such nature by self-centered beings in the administration.

Don't humiliate our Royal Malaysian Police and Armed Forces personnel by awarding every Tom, DICK and Harry with medals meant for heroes. TQ

Commission of Inquiry on Lahad Datu... in the Philippines?

Former Indonesian vice-president Jusuf Kala has said it loud and clear. 

Regarding the Lahad Datu intrusion, Jusuf said he believes former Philippines president Joseph Estrada, who is also an ally of Anwar, is involved.

He also said that a large Philippines-based company was providing Malaysia's opposition pact with monetary assistance.

“I know for a fact that there has been intervention by a particular group of people and Anwar’s friend Joseph Estrada is one of them and a Philippines company has also been providing them (Pakatan) with financial help over the Lahad Datu intrusion,” he said.

“They have only one agenda, to weaken the Malaysian government, the trespassers want to portray a weak Malaysian government which has failed to handle the intrusion”  he added. - The Mole

The Philippines Government may want to get to the root of this latest information from Indonesia's ex-vice president. I don't think Jusuf Kala was joking. 

The Sulu intrusion where Malaysian security forces personnel were killed/murdered is no joke either. 

Both Kuala Lumpur and Manila must recognise the fact that the intrusion could have easily turned into a war had it not for the close relationship and understanding between the two nations.

Maybe the time is now ripe for both the Governments of Philippines and Malaysia to conduct joint investigations into what actually happened. Expose the culprits.

Manila could take the lead (as their nationals with alleged funding from a Philippines company) had actually waged war against Malaysia (against the Yang DiPertuan Agong as per their criminal charge sheet reads).

This is a very serious matter and Jusuf Kala's latest 'information' appears to be leading us to a bunch of traitors from both sides of the border.

I'm sure Kuala Lumpur will render her full cooperation should Manila initiate a Commission of Inquiry. 

If the suspects are hiding in Malaysia (even if they are our MPs), we must surrender them to the Philippines.

Let truth prevail.

“We thought it is high-time the public is informed about our stance on the claims that have been made,” said Malaysia’s Attorney General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail at the Political Transformation Conference held at the Magellan Resort in Kota Kinabalu on April 2nd.

“The research for this book started at least three or four years ago. The materials were collected and retrieved by colleagues who, some of them, travelled to different countries including the United States of America in order to do so,” said Gani.

“We have done an extensive amount of research which includes articles and documents that have become very important to us and through this book we are able to cite it to you without prejudice,” he said while also citing the United Nation Secretary General’s report as one of the reference materials used to garner more information.

Gani took the initiative to detail the status and historical background of Sabah through his book entitled ‘Putting to Rest the Claim to Sabah by the Self-proclaimed Sultanate of Sulu’. He also explains Malaysia's position under international law and discusses the claims of the Sulu and Philippines on Sabah.

According to the Attorney General, the book details the exact happenings and the agreements that were set during the times of Gustav Baron Von Overbeck as well as British North Borneo Company Founder Alfred Dent. The book also outlines the events that led Sabah to join the Federation of Malaya which ultimately culminated in the formation Malaysia. Besides that, Gani also touches on the subject of Cobbold Commission in his book.

“I think a lot of people have been talking about and are confused about the details of the Cobbold Commission,” he said. “I thought maybe just this once, I would pen down what was reported exactly in order to provide clarity over the subject.”

The 149-page book is jointly published by Razak School of Government and the Malaysian Institute of Translation and Books. The RM30 book is expected to be available in the market by this week and it can also be purchased online at ecommerce.itbm.com.my.

Dr Mahathir who spent about an hour with our Police and Military men of Ops Daulat in Lahad Datu on Sunday (17/03/2013) praised our security forces for their bravery, professionalism and ability to contain and eliminate the threat posed by the Kiram group of terrorists in Sabah.

"The ability of our security forces is on par with any other nation and we don't have to rely on foreign help as was the case before we achieved Independence"

The former Prime Minister said the Sulu people, on the other side of the border (in Philippines) are our friends while those (of Sulu origin) in Sabah were our citizens while the Kiram group are nothing but criminals who cause unnecessary problem for everybody. 

"I'm sure the peace loving people of Sulu here and our friends on the other side condemn the actions of these criminals who have killed our security forces and caused a big problem for us.

Repeatedly thanking the security forces for their sacrifices in ensuring the sovereignty of Malaysia was not compromised 'even an inch', Dr Mahathir said the people of Sabah and Malaysia in general felt safe because our security forces were willing to sacrifice their lives for the well being of the nation and her people.

'The people of Sabah and Malaysians in general feel indebted to our security forces. We Malaysians appreciate the sacrifices of our security forces and this is one of our best quality as Malaysians. We unite and stand as one in such times although there were those who are trying to divide us. I'm sure the 'rakyat' will stand united.

"The people could think for themselves if all this that is happening in Lahad datu is a sandiwara or not.
